PROJECT BACKGROUND

Economic development is a key priority throughout Queensland as a mechanism for building the strength and resilience of regions. Investing in developing a skilled workforce is an essential driver of regional economic growth. Without a suitably skilled workforce, many economic development strategies will not be able to be effectively realised.

The Workforce planning for regions guide recognises that Queensland’s regions are varied by economic diversity, employment opportunities and challenges. Each region requires a highly skilled workforce that aligns with the unique and natural advantages of their region.

MORE ABOUT THIS GUIDE

This guide has been developed for people involved in workforce planning at a region level, including individuals and organisations working in economic development, industry peak bodies, local leaders and government.

Workforce planning and development at a regional level has the potential to grow the region. It is most effective when there is a collaborative partnership between key stakeholders, led by region and industry leaders, and supported by sound evidence to implement locally led solutions.

Informed by Jobs Queensland’s approach to workforce planning and development, this guide aims to build regional workforce planning capability to develop workforce plans and initiatives to support ‘grow your own’ workforces and cross-sector skills development.

This guide outlines a four-stage approach to developing a region workforce plan.

  • Stage 1 – Get started
  • Stage 2 – Gather information
  • Stage 3 – Identify issues and find solutions
  • Stage 4 – Develop, implement and monitor.
