Fraser Coast Workforce Blueprint 2018
PROJECT BACKGROUND
Jobs Queensland undertook the Ipswich Manufacturing Workforce Project, a place-based project, to support skills and employment growth in the region. Engaging with the manufacturing industry and other relevant stakeholders, Jobs Queensland coordinated a strategy to strengthen the relationships between supply and demand for skills in the region.
- The Ipswich Manufacturing Workforce Project was undertaken in two phases and delivered:
- The Ipswich Manufacturing Environmental Scan
- A Workforce Report and Action Plan for the Manufacturing Industry in Ipswich
(within the Ipswich Statistical Area 4 (SA4) region). - The SA4 region is explained within the Environmental Scan.
By focusing on the manufacturing industry, the project aligned with and leveraged existing economic development priorities and strategies for the Ipswich region. In order to capture the largest number of firms possible, the project took a broad definition of manufacturing to include sub sectors such as food processing and defence.
The project also aligned with a number of other key activities delivered by Jobs Queensland including the:
- Anticipating Future Skills project
- Advancing Manufacturing Skills Training and Workforce Development project.
THE BLUEPRINT
Developed in consultation with the Fraser Coast Regional Advisory Group, the Fraser Coast Workforce Blueprint 2018 sets out the priorities and recommendations for the achievement of jobs growth and economic development in the Fraser Coast region.
It outlines five recommended areas of training and employment focus for the region, including educational pathways, entrepreneurship and digital literacy. The report also focuses on local actions and policies the Fraser Coast’s key industries can undertake to assist jobs and economic growth.
Jobs Fraser Coast, a group of local business, community and education leaders, will provide community leadership to oversee the implementation of the Blueprint.
The Blueprint was released by the Honourable Shannon Fentiman MP, Minister for Employment and Small Business and Minister for Training and Skills Development, on 24 October 2018 in Maryborough.

THE RESEARCH REPORT
In partnership with CSIRO and TAFE Queensland, Jobs Queensland commissioned the research report Growing Opportunities In The Fraser Coast: Informing Regional Workforce Development, released in September 2017.
CSIRO drew on literature reviews, employment data and stakeholder interviews to reveal changes in skills demand and supply in the region. The report focuses on identifying employment patterns and in-demand skills to maximise future economic opportunities for the Fraser Coast’s workers and businesses.
The report assisted with the development of The Fraser Coast Workforce Blueprint 2018.
It also links with other Jobs Queensland workforce planning activities including the:
- Fraser Coast Regional Tourism Workforce Plan 2018-2020
- Advancing Manufacturing Skills: A Skills, Training and Workforce Development Strategy for the Manufacturing Industry in Queensland.
