Chair’s message – Workforce Summit and beyond

We’ve just passed the one-year mark since the Queensland Workforce Summit.

This Summit saw key stakeholders brought together from across Queensland, including government, industry leaders, economic and workforce experts, thought leaders and change makers, to collaboratively work together to address current and future workforce challenges.

Jobs Queensland was proud to have its Anticipating Future Skills Series data used as the central evidence base for this event and the Good people. Good Job: Queensland Workforce Strategy 2022-2032 that followed.

Since then, Jobs Queensland has been helping inform and guide action under the Queensland Workforce Strategy, and the associated Action Plan 2022-2025.

Like the Summit, the implementation of the Queensland Workforce Strategy will require collaboration and partnerships from across all industries and regions, and an agreed focus on delivering a strong, skilled and diverse workforce that is able to thrive in today’s jobs and adapt to future opportunities.

With workforce attraction and retention being one of the key focus areas of the Strategy, Jobs Queensland has partnered with the Health and Community Services sectors to facilitate the implementation of sector-led workforce development, attraction and retention strategies.

To do this, the Queensland Care Consortium (QCC) was officially launched on 9 March. This is a partnership between Jobs Queensland, CheckUP Australia, Community Services Industry Alliance (CSIA), Queensland Council of Social Service (QCOSS) and The Services Union.

The QCC will support the development and delivery of industry-led, government-enabled activities that will assist these sectors to design and implement sustainable place-based activities to meet gaps in local workforce planning and development efforts.

Round one funding applications are now open to not-for-profit community organisations, industry organisations, an enterprise or a group of enterprises, to work collaboratively to build, retain and upskill the workforce they need for the Health and Community Services sectors. Round one funding applications close 24 March 2023.

Visit the Jobs Queensland for more information about the Queensland Care Consortium and available funding to support workforce development, attraction and retention for the Health and Community Services sectors.

It’s very exciting to be part of the work Jobs Queensland is leading to support the implementation of the Queensland Workforce Strategy and help build the current and future workforce of Queensland.
