The Anticipating Future Skills Series 4: Five-year employment projections to June 2026  launch attracted stakeholders from across Queensland to unpack employment projections from 2021-22 to 2025-26 and highlight the industries and regions projected to experience significant change in employment.

Presentations during the event explored the future challenges and opportunities of Queensland’s jobs and skills markets.

The event marked the official launch of Series 4 of Jobs Queensland’s Anticipating Future Skills flagship project and included the release of a number of updated resources.

You can use the Anticipating Future Skills (AFS) series for workforce planning, to identify regional jobs growth or to help you make decisions about your future career. It provides detailed employment projections to help you understand what Queensland’s future labour market might look like.

Plenary session

The Anticipating Future Skills Series 4: Five-year employment projections to June 2026 plenary session featured presentations from:

  • The Hon. Di Farmer, Minister for Employment and Small Business, Minister for Training and Skills Development and Minister for Youth Justice
  • Donna Bonney, Board Chair, Jobs Queensland
  • Joshua Rayner, Executive Director, Jobs Queensland
  • Shaz Gerchow, Research Manager, Jobs Queensland

During the plenary session, Jobs Queensland launched a new round of data for the AFS Series – Anticipating Future Skills Series 4: Five-year employment projections to June 2026. Attendees were also provided with context around the labour market and population data, alongside a high-level overview of the featured scenarios. 

The launch included the release of new data via the Data Portal, Data Explorer and updated resources: statewide overview, regional profiles and industry profiles.

MASTERCLASS sessions

The Anticipating Future Skills Series 4 launch event featured two breakout sessions demonstrating how industry, regional and business representatives are utilising Jobs Queensland’s research and data in practical ways to support workforce planning and skills development.

MASTERCLASS session 1 – Anticipating Future Skills

The Anticipating Future Skills breakout session took a deep-dive into the new set of AFS data and guided attendees through a practical demonstration of the Data Portal.

MASTERCLASS session 2 – Workforce Planning

The workforce planning breakout session highlighted the importance of proactive workforce planning for enterprises, regions and industries, discussed the practical application of Jobs Queensland’s Workforce Planning Connect tools, and demonstrated how AFS data provides an evidence-base foundation for workforce planning.
